I have recently had two reminders of great memories courtesy of some ex-clients. It’s always lovely to be remembered at key moments in ex-clients lives and these have somehow felt all the more special during this strange time.
In July I heard from New Yorkers, Jonathan and Kelley who celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. Jonathan had arranged a surprise Zoom with me as part of their 'lockdown celebration'.
It's so hard to believe their wedding was 20 years ago, it doesn't feel that long at all. It was so special to be a surprise part of their celebration and to see them both again; I felt touched and honoured. I truly do love my job, and clients like Jonathan and Kelley make it all the more special. Here's a photo from their rehearsal dinner at The Bluebird 20 years ago and one from our drinks catch up. We've hardly changed!
Then, last week, I heard from the mother of two brides and a groom whose weddings I planned in the early 2000s. Over a period of 7 years, I had the pleasure of planning the weddings of all three of their children.
She had been talking about me to someone who was having to postpone her wedding due to the pandemic and this triggered her dropping me a line to see how I was doing and to send me an recent photo of their much extended family (they are now grandparents to 7 children). It was lovely to have a brief exchange with her and share her memories of those three extraordinary days.
These two lovely re-encounters only serve to demonstrate that weddings will return as splendid and celebratory as they were before. They are a rite of passage, a bringing together of loved ones and a celebration like no other. They create indelible memories. How lucky I feel to be part of them.
